Dear Evan Hansen arrived in our neighborhood for the weekend and you better believe we were first in line for tickets. It might have been even better the second time! And Chase loved it, too. Have I mentioned how much I enjoy musicals?
Today’s art appreciation came in the form of a new glass art mosaic on campus at UWEC. Not a mural, but we like it nonetheless.
Robbe offered up an impromptu piano concert tonight and he had two very engaged audience members.
My mom’s birthday was in March and I thought it would be a fun idea to do a weaving tutorial with a talented artist in the area. Little did I know this simple idea would not be so simple to coordinate. Six months later and three reschedules, but we did it. And it was very cool. What a beautiful and complicated craft. It was fascinating to see it come together.
So, there you go…happy birthday, mom!
We snuck in a quick trip to the lake this weekend to celebrate my dad’s birthday. We basked in the unseasonably warm day, played some games, cleaned up a bit of summer, enjoyed a delicious bday dinner, picked some pumpkins, and I rocked my first attempt at making divinity (a fluffy candy I’ve never heard of). It was a lovely celebration of one of my favorite people.
You know what makes laundry on a Friday night more fun? Kittens. Kittens is the answer to everything.
Look who came to visit for a tennis match today! We felt so lucky to be able to watch Lily play—it’s been too long. Such a beautiful afternoon for it, too.
I know, I know…another mural. And this river-themed one is right across the river from our house. Crazy, right? I’m a fan.
That’s right. The book festival is back and it is consuming most of my work time these days. I do really enjoy doing it but, man, sometimes it’s a bit much.
Luckily, I have two more feline friends to “help” with my random projects. Take this book photo shoot, for example. Murphy had a lot of suggestions to improve the shots (most of the suggestions just included inserting himself into the set up).
My super smart and talented husband managed to hook us up with a sweet weekend away at a fancy northwoods resort, Canoe Bay. It was a couple of days of doing basically nothing except all of the nothing things we never have time for: reading, playing games, chatting, sleeping in, sauna-ing, hiking, and even canoeing [on the bay!]. I managed to sneak in a massage AND a nap, too. Can you handle it?
Special thanks to my mom and dad for entertaining the boys all weekend. We were all living our best lives. Minus the kittens. They really missed us.
After a weekend away (more details on that tomorrow, I promise!), I think it’s safe to say that the kittens really missed us.
Robbe and I took a different bike route to school today and discovered a new set of murals. Have I mentioned how much I love murals?
It doesn’t happen very often but all three of our furry friends put aside their differences to hang out with Chase at the same time. Sometimes dreams do come true.
When you find an extra [clean] litter box on the floor, obviously it becomes a new favorite cat bed.
We worked the 4-H booth at yesterday’s Fall Festival downtown. It was a beautiful (if not a bit too warm) day and they had a great turnout.
On the way home, I snapped this photo that captures the personality of our youngest pretty perfectly.
He’s a tricky one.
Extended summer weather means extra motivation to bike to school instead of drive. And what a beautiful morning for a bike ride it was!
It’s been crazy warm here lately. Weirdly warm. And it looks like it’s sticking around for a bit. Maybe today will be the last swim…or maybe we’ve got one (or more!) yet to come. Who knows with this crazy weather. We’ll keep you posted.

It wasn’t quite like the hike we did in Denver (2.5 hours), but we did get out to enjoy the beauty weather today. Mt. Simon even had this new addition—someone (or a group of people?) built incredible structures out of sticks and vines. It was really impressive!
