Day 2580 | Book Festival Volunteers

I did a thing today! A friend and I drove two hours to an author event…and it was really great. I have a greater appreciation for these types of events with all my book festival experience. It was really lovely to be just an attendee for once. And I’ve got a new book to add to my reading list now, too.
Man, today was a good day. We had a relaxing morning followed by a treasure hunting adventure at some neighborhood thrift sales. Robbe started soccer back up so we spent part of the afternoon cheering him on—with perfect sporting weather, too. Then we walked downtown and stopped by the library. Back in time for a yummy meal, an elaborate board game, and Badger football—all on our porch. It might not be everyone’s ideal day, but it felt pretty good to this family.
Thankfully, everyone is feeling better at our house today. We even snuck out for a post-dinner walk to check out the new mural. Pretty cool, right?
This is what the second day of school looked like for us. Strep caught Robbe already. At least he’ll get his one school-time sickness out of the way early! That was good planning.
This handsome guy started 4th grade today. I don’t think you could find a more excited kid to be going back to school. He was beyond ready, that’s for sure. And, from everything we heard, the day totally lived up to his expectations. Robbe is looking forward to rocking E2 (the 4th and 5th combined classroom at our school) this year.
We spent a lovely family-filled Labor Day weekend at the lake. The weather was perfect and everyone actually made it from my whole side of the family. That’s incredible! I’m sure there are better photos that summarize the fun we had, but I’ll just share this one for now.
We. Have. A. Middle. Schooler. I can’t believe it either. He had a great day, though. He managed to navigate a huge school. Found a friendly face in every classroom. Raved about his teachers. Maneuvered a chaotic lunchroom. And got his locker open on his first try. See? A great day!
In case you’re wondering what I’ve been spending all of my time on…it’s this. The book festival is back in action! It’s simultaneously my favorite and least favorite time of the year.
You know what haircuts in August means…back to school must be close!
We decided that our family doesn’t play enough racket sports so this weekend we added another one to our repertoire: tennis! Now we’ll fit in even better with the Stevens Point cousins.
We were reunited with the tiniest of the boys’ cousins today. Somehow, he’s even cuter than the last time we saw him.
I really love this place, you know?
We had such a lovely weekend with these crazy cats. Tennis, Dungeons & Dragons, yummy food + drinks, cribbage, matching outfits, and so much laughing. It was pretty perfect.
Our favorite tennis player was in town for a tournament today and it was the perfect morning for some outdoor spectating. We cheered her on to victory so I’m pretty sure we get to take some of the credit for the win.
I feel like I’ve spent the summer running to this and that, working every free moment, scheduling all of our free time, and not really enjoying (or appreciating!) the time with the boys as much as I’d like. After Chris had two full days off with the boys last week, I decided today was my “day off” with the boys, too. We had such a good time…managed to do a little bit of everything:
Something outdoors: a jaunt to the Devil’s Punchbowl
Something new: stopped at a library we’ve never been to
Something we’re excited about: we toured the co-op a town over to see what the new EC co-op is going to look like when it opens in October
Something kind: delivered lunch to Zoe at work
Something adventurous: thrift store treasure-hunting, of course! We snagged a couple of good finds!
Something delicious: we tried the new Mexican popsicle (and ice cream) shop. It was SO tasty! We’ll definitely be back with Chris.
Something productive: the final swim lesson of the summer…with *a few* extra minutes of free swim time
Something non-productive: extra video game time because, obviously, that’s what the boys wish for more than anything else
We squeezed in our annual corn picking outing today. It’s always one of our favorite harvests. I think we were out there for about 10 minutes. Ha!
Also, sorry I’ve been MIA again. For real, what’s happened to this summer?!? I’ll try to do better, but this might be the new status quo. Thanks for understanding.
We’re feeling all the Michigan love over here today. Missing our friends from the next state over something fierce.
A beautiful summer evening, delicious Pad Thai, and catching up with one of my forever favorites. Yeah. It was a good night. Safe travels, back to Florida, friend! We’ll miss you around here.
One of our favorite events of the year! We even got to explore the art twice over the weekend because we were actually in town. Crazy, I know.
People are incredibly talented, aren’t they?
