Day 2186 | A New Driveway
/So this is happening. Buh-bye, four layers of crumbling asphalt. Hello, new concrete. Keep cool thoughts headed our way as we wait for our air conditioning to be reinstalled on Friday.

We had friends pick up the boys’ 4-H projects since we didn’t get back in time to grab them ourselves. Guess what? Chase got his first-ever trophy (for his terrarium project)! Because we couldn’t go through the normal judging process, we weren’t sure the boys would even get their participation ribbons. We were wrong! Both boys were beyond excited about their accolades. It’s not always about the prize at the end, but sometimes the prizes can be really fun.
The boys presented their projects at the 4-H fair today. It wasn’t the normal judging because we’re heading out of town tomorrow and missing the real deal, but they had fun chatting about their projects (which included photography, an ice cream sundae candle, puppets, a cardboard castle, a favorite snack recipe, and a terrarium). All the work is worth it when you end up with such sweet projects. And the boys even got to participate in some fun 4- H olympic games (hence the other photos). It was nice to see the fair up and running again (in a more limited capacity, but still)!
Another summer in Wisconsin, another beautiful day for blueberry picking. It was a bit toasty, but no bugs so we won’t complain. Three ice cream pails (with us and my dad) in about 1.5 hours. Not too shabby, right? Especially when you consider how many that were picked but didn’t make it into the pail (and rerouted into two little tummies).
We were starting to worry that we wouldn’t make it down the river on a tube this summer. Luckily, the lack of plans and hot weather today helped us check this one off the list. And it was a beautiful float with my favorite people.
The 4-H fair is next week and today was photo day. We’ve been waiting a good bit for the free time and blue sky combination to be right for the outing. Today needed to be the day. And it worked out. My little budding photographer did great! I’m a pretty good teacher, I have to say.
The trees on each corner of our house have been asking to be removed since we moved in five years ago. Too overgrown and not cute. We need to figure out what to put in their places, but for now I’m just enjoying the tidier look.
It’s the moment you’ve been waiting for…all the photos from our Denver trip! There are some good ones in here. Thanks again to Matt and Marisa (and the baby!) for hosting us for a wonderful trip–they really went above and beyond! We continue to love Denver and now we have one more reason to make the trip more often.
Here’s Robbe showing off his new sneakers. As you can tell, they’re very fast.
There have been a lot of really wonderful things about our trip to Denver. Seeing our two be the big cousins to this little peanut honestly tops the list. Chase, especially, was so attentive and interested and engaging (as much as you can be with a two month old). I would have never expected it but it made my heart so happy to see.
We’re in Denver and loving every second. Our new baby nephew/cousin is about the sweetest little nugget ever. And we’re soaking in every second with him.
The days have gone by fast but we’ve managed to squeeze a lot in. We’ve had tons of baby snuggles (mostly me), done lots of exploring (today’s highlight was the boys’ first escape room), and have eaten way too much delicious food. We’re beyond grateful for the chance to travel again after going 23 months without being on an airplane. I just love Denver.
We traveled today. On an airplane. For the first time in almost two years. Woohoo! We’re in Denver meeting our new nephew/cousin and he’s the sweetest little nugget. More photos to come, but this one will have to do for now. Off to sleep for the big day tomorrow.
We’re about to head out on a traveling adventure. What does that mean for these two? A trip to the convenience store for a candy treat for the airplane. So many choices, so little time. In the end, Chase chose Smoothie Skittles and Robbe selected Mambas. I will be sampling both.
We spent Saturday celebrating Chris’s mom for her birthday. It was a lovely 70s celebration filled with lots of food, too many sweets, and so much laughter.
She brings so much joy to so many people. It was nice to put her in the spotlight for once.
Robbe has been working on wiggling his front teeth for weeks and weeks. Today was the day for the left one—thanks to his cousin’s help and encouragement.
The ingredients for a successful extraction?
a Froot Loop
three pistachios
lots of pushing, twisting, and spinning
a piece of floss (and some delicate finessing by me)
I have a feeling he other front tooth won’t be far behind.
Today was our third Summer Surprise Adventure day. I try to find something new to do once a week to expand our horizons of fun activities in our area. Today’s adventure was a visit to the Wisconsin Logging Museum (yep, that’s a thing!). We enjoyed the beautiful day by meandering through some historic buildings and learning a lot about the area’s logging trade.
To round it out, we finished up with ice cream from the adorable ice cream window pictured above. Sometimes everything just works out.
It’s that time of year—4-H time! We’ve been busy working on projects. These are puppet heads, obviously.
I purposely let my phone die this weekend—it was a lovely tech break. The downside is that I don’t have many photos.
Even without the photos to prove it, we had a really great weekend. Lots of lake time. Lots of family time. Lots of delicious food. And all-around beautiful weather. It doesn’t get much better.
Pretty rowdy around here as we head into the holiday weekend. If you don’t hear from me, it’s because I’m taking a tech break. Happy 4th, everyone!
We said [another] farewell to Richmond this week. Unfortunately, he hasn’t found his forever home yet, but there was another foster home willing to take the sweet little guy because we’ve got some travel coming up in July. Richmond has been with us for almost two months. It was hard to say goodbye, but that’s part of the deal and I have high hopes Richmond will find the perfect family really soon.
