Day 1646 | Mommy and Me Selfie

Dance competition selfie from yesterday. Aren’t we cute?
We’re missing one of the girls in this photo and one of them pictured has a fake bruise on her face, but it’s the best we could do. These girls were crazy busy all afternoon and we couldn’t catch them for a better photo. We’re so proud of our girls for the work and effort that goes into these completions and love watching their passion come to life on stage.
Man, what a gorgeous day. I could handle a few more like this.
Robbe and I set up this workspace for him today. I grabbed the typewriter (it weighs a ton, after all) and he took care of decorating his area with his favorite photo and his new drawing of his favorite birds.
He did a lot of typing about blue-footed boobies. And some typing of friends’ names, too. It was a busy day.
Today Robbe asked me to find, print, and frame a photograph of [preferably dancing] ducks. He settled on this one of two blue-footed boobies. You know how google searches veer sometimes. He is so very proud of this photo. Can you tell?
Side note: I’m sorry I’ve been such a deadbeat on the blog lately. This past week has been one of the busiest in a long long while. I’m almost through the haze, though. Stick with me.
I’ve been having a really hard time taking photos lately. We’ve been super busy and I guess I just haven’t been thinking about it in the moment. And then I get home and realize that I’m left without anything for the blog [again]. Sorry about that!
I’m in the same predicament tonight so I’ve decided to go back into my camera roll and post this gem from Easter. It might not be today, but it is cute!
This is what you want childhood to look like: rolling down a hill in a wagon with some good friends while your dad runs along side and protects you from hitting trees. I’m not sure the boys have ever been happier.
The boys got haircuts today. Robbe could not be more existed to have the haircut he’s been asking for since he saw Harry Potter about a month ago. He wanted to look like Draco Malfoy—for some strange reason. The barber hit it out of the park, though. This little guy couldn’t be happier.
No one can complain about a bit of rain after the gorgeous weekend we had. Plus these two are just so sweet sharing an umbrella.
These little guys are *very* excited about Easter. Like, very very excited.
Hopefully they find some good baskets tomorrow. Happy Easter, everyone!
It was a gorgeous day in Wisconsin. Chris was off work and the boys were off school so we made the most of our bonus weekend day.
Remember how I’ve mentioned the spring flooding that happens in Eau Claire (here and here)? It’s back again. I think the river is the highest we’ve seen it, in fact. Chase snapped the photo above when we were at the park this afternoon. Do you see the tree line on the other side of the ducks? Usually there’s a sloping hill after that and then the river starts. It’s crazy!
We needed today. Sunshine and high 60s. No one can be grumpy on a day like today.
Now that the snow is [mostly] gone, we had to have another pumping tutorial on the swing set today. Since our kids have never been interested in swings, they haven’t honed their pumping skills. Shocking, I know. This is the year, though! They’ll be jumping off in no time.
Today was our annual bag-stuffing assembly line for my hometown Easter egg hunt (taking place next weekend). I don’t know why but I love this tradition so much. And the boys are becoming much more self-sufficient in the process. Our quality control team only caught one error. Hopefully the kiddos next weekend appreciate the goodies!
Because this is how you paint when you’re five: tongue all the way out.
After the ~10 inches of snow on Thursday, we officially broke the record for most snow fall in a season. We’re inching very close to 100 inches. Crazy, right?
The only thing keeping me sane is that this latest round won’t last long. It better not.
Remember when Robbe and I had a picnic lunch outside because it was so warm? That was five days ago.
So this is happening. Stay tuned to find out how much we actually get.
Spring has finally made an appearance! It might be short-lived if the weather folks are right and winter returns mid-week, so we needed to make the most of it. A scoot/walk for a lunchtime picnic at the park, obviously.
It was glorious.
Just like that birthday season comes to an end. It was kind of bittersweet not to have a big party this year, but the low key weekend with my three favorite people in the whole world definitely made it more sweet than bitter.
And what a day it was. We celebrated this seven-year-old in exactly the way he wanted to celebrate: opening presents before breakfast, cinnamon rolls as a breakfast dessert, a short scoot to the bridge, watching Harry Potter (they just finished the first book), lunch at Noodles, playtime with some new toys, video-gaming with his dad and brother, pasta pillows + cake with some special guests, and more love + attention than he could handle. It was low key (we only left the house once, after all) and absolutely perfect for Chase.
Seven years ago, I became a mom. Forty weeks doesn’t adequately prepare you for what this role entails. In fact, seven years in and I’m still not sure if I’m doing a good job. But at the end of the day, they’re happy, I’m happy, and our hearts are full. No matter how many gifts I offer up to Chase, the gift he gave me by making me a mom trumps them all. And he’ll never really understand that—as it should be.
He’s graduated to a two-wheel scooter…as of today! Chase has been scooting on on his three-wheeler for about four years. We gave him a scooter for his birthday today and he rocked it on his first outing.
He’s got a sweet little friend group. Chase spends his days at school with his two first-grade buddies and it’s adorable.
He thinks his dad is hysterical. Like really, really funny. It’s just one of the things Chase and I have in common.
He continues to have a sensitive soul. It comes with its ups and downs, but I’ll take his sweet, sensitive heart any day.
He no longer puts holes in his pants’ knees. That must mean his play has changed, right? Just another sign of growing up, I guess.
He loves Superman ice cream. That’s a real flavor. I don’t really get it, but that’s ok.
He’s kind of an expert traveler. He’s happy to read, play, watch movies, etc. for hours. He’s about the most contented little guy (or is he a medium guy now?) ever.
When your birthday is on a Sunday you can’t help but start the celebration on Saturday. We enjoyed a morning stop at the arcade and then hosted some of our favorite people for a birthday pizza party (and Pokémon mystery game). And now we have a whole day of celebrating ahead of us tomorrow.
We must really like our sweet soon-to-be seven year old.
